The justin.tv channel runs a internet relay chat (IRC) server to which anyone can connect. In this way, you can use your own IRC program to chat in real-time with other viewers.
The server name is irc.justin.tv
The channel name is #ijustine
You must create your account on the justin.tv page and then authenticate it from your own irc client.
To create your account, pick "Create an account" at the top of the screen on the justin.tv website.
Type in your choosen login, password, and confirmed password.
Once you have your account, you will see the "you are _yourname_ (0)" at the top of the window.
To get your password, click on the "Options" button, then "Rooms". Your password will be at the bottom of this window. Since it is so long, it is best to copy and paste your password. Example: "1967fc5ab8dca925941490bb84a2b422702af5bc"
Once you have your password, type /identify your_irc_name_here yourpassword in your irc command line window.
For example: /identify Mike 1967fc5ab8dca925941490bb84a2b422702af5bc
You are now authenticated and can change to the ijustine channel: /join #ijustine
iJustine fan karlbright made a configuration file for anyone who is using the mac chat program Colloquy and wants to get rid of those pesky join/part notices. There are so many notices going by they can really detract from the conversation. Download: http://files.karlbright.org/ColloquyNoNotifications.zip
and follow instructions.
If you want this feature in all your windows and not just for ijustine, rename the file and put it here "/Applications/Colloquy.app/Contents/Resources/default.css"
